Open to the community to come and talk with area agencies and individual about death, dying, and bereavement and which supports may help. There will be booths of information, prize draws, and snacks/drinks will be provided. There will be two speakers well versed in death topics, being a Death Doula, and Advanced Care Planning.
The Lotus Center Death Cafe is open to the public and typically consists of an agenda-free discussion of death . Our objective will be to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. Dinner will be served. All ages welcome. This is a safe, judgement-free, no-fixing zone. Every belief is welcome.
Philadelphia Death and Arts Festival (PDAF) is a collaborative, artist-led experience, reimagining the culture of dying. The festival’s three themes– aging, dying, and grieving– are explored with performances, workshops, panels, and more. The festival invites attendees into a vision of a culture of dying that is person-centered, community-oriented, and care driven. Grief is universal but there are dynamics and nuances that can be specific to cultural identities and experiences. In this online workshop series, Kimberly Hong, a palliative care clinical social worker, will facilitate learning about the Asian American journey of grief, exploring community support, and considering different coping strategies when grieving. This is the second online workshop in the series; attendance from the first session is not required to attend the second session.
It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation.
