DESCRIPTION:A monthly peer-led Zoom group for people who had a strained relationship with someone who’s died. It can be tough to be in a group with other folks who were close with their parent\, sibling\, grandparent\, partner\, co-parent\, friend\, etc. As much as I like for there to be a range of experiences represented in grief groups\, so that we can hear diverse perspectives\, sometimes it is nice to be with people who “get it.” When addiction\, mental health challenges\, conflict\, estrangement\, abuse\, etc. were a part of the picture\, it can affect the grief journey in unique ways. This is a space for us.

In this discussion\, we are free to talk about it: the depth of our sadness\, the fears\, the anxieties\, the doubts\, the jealousies. Incorporating the practice of free writing\, this evening will start with 10-15 minutes of individual free writing on topics/ideas related to death\, dying\, and grief. From here\, the conversational part of the evening will begin\, as casual and welcoming group-lead discussion on death and dying frame the rest of the event. \nWhat is a death café? \nDeath cafés are casual conversational evenings for people to come together and discuss the many facets of life and death. It’s a beautiful way to connect with others and have open discussions about death and dying\, topics so often deemed as taboo in North American culture. \nWhat is free writing? \nFree writing is a writing exercise where one writes continuously for a set amount of time\, no editing\, no stopping\, no worries about spelling or grammar—just getting those thoughts down! This is a great opportunity to get some journaling in and will also be used to help us conjure some conversational ideas and thoughts around grief\, death\, and dying.

DESCRIPTION:It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%\, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice\, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation. Many of us make this choice for a lot of unfortunate\, depressing\, and/or systemic reasons\, and I created this space where we can be with our truths\, and hurts\, around it all. \nOur monthly peer-led Zoom group is intended to be a space for people who have chosen not to have children. It is not intended to be a child-loss support group or infertility support group\, although if you have prior experience with infertility and/or pregnancy loss and have since decided to not have children (meaning you are now childfree by choice) feel free to join and see if it’s a good fit.

It can be tough to be in a group with other folks who were close with their parent\, sibling\, grandparent\, partner\, co-parent\, friend\, etc. As much as I like for there to be a range of experiences represented in grief groups\, so that we can hear diverse perspectives\, sometimes it is nice to be with people who “get it.” When addiction\, mental health challenges\, conflict\, estrangement\, abuse\, etc. were a part of the picture\, it can affect the grief journey in unique ways. This is a space for us.

DESCRIPTION:Mortem is a 10 day online death school for artists with the Biophilium to pursue our curiosity of death and to explore and develop our identities as a death-curious artists. The virtual residency will involve daily live video lectures with international death care and funeral industry workers\, historians\, biologists and artists on a range of death related topics and several short one on one meetings with artists who make art about death around the world. Built in to the 2- 2.5 hours of daily programming are discussions\, recommended assignments and show and tell. The program is designed to give insight into death knowledge and ritual from a wide range of perspectives. \nBiophilium death residencies facilitate talk about death. It is not grief therapy and won’t ask you to dwell on pain from your past\, although it will be an opportunity to share past experiences in a death positive context and most likely will be therapeutic.
