SUMMARY:DEATH IMMERSION A 3-Part Journey Into Mortality\, Meaning & Rebirth
DESCRIPTION:🌙 Death Immersion: A 3-Part Journey Into Mortality\, Meaning & Rebirth \nGuided by Paige Haviland — Death Midwife\, Grief Guide and Trauma-Informed Reiki Master Teacher \nWinter is the season of stillness\, reflection\, and truth-telling.\nYou are invited into a rare and intimate experience: a full-day immersion exploring death not as an ending\, but as a threshold — a place where clarity\, healing\, and renewal awaken. \nThis workshop is tender\, profound\, creative\, and deeply human.\nIt is designed to meet you exactly where you are. \nTogether we move through three transformative rites of passage: \n⸻ \n✨ PART I — Guided Interactive Death Practice \nA contemplative journey where you gently explore your personal relationship with death and dying. \nThrough guided visualization\, reflective writing\, and supported inquiry\, you will uncover: \n• the stories you inherited about death\n• the fears or numbness you carry\n• the wisdom hidden beneath your resistance\n• what death reveals about how you’re living \nThis practice is grounding\, clarifying\, and often life-shifting. \n⸻ \n✨ PART II — The Death Box Ritual \nDuring this portion\, light food and refreshments will be served as you create your Death & Legacy Box — a sacred container representing you\, how you see your funeral\, final messages\, and the truths you wish to be remembered for. \nThis segment includes: \n• a guided death-awareness visualization\n• journaling + meaning-making\n• creating a personal Death Box\n• decorating it with materials that reflect your story\n• a gentle letting-go ritual\n• reflection while sharing food in community \n🥗 Light Lunch + Refreshments Provided \n(Vegan and gluten-free options available upon request.) \n⸻ \n✨ PART III — The Living Funeral Ceremony \nThe day concludes with a deeply moving symbolic death and rebirth ritual. \nParticipants are invited (never required) to:\n• write their last reflections or final words\n• be guided through a symbolic “death” journey\n• release what is ready to be released\n• “return” with clarity\, gratitude\, and renewed purpose \nThis ceremony often becomes a turning point — a moment of profound awakening. \n⸻ \n🌿 Integration Circle \nWe close with grounding\, journaling\, and gentle conversation to integrate the experience and settle your nervous system. \n🎟 Investment: $188 \nIncludes:\n• All materials\n• Your personal Death & Legacy Box\n• Full guided immersion\n• Food and refreshments\n• Integration circle \n⸻ \n❤️ Who This Is For \nThis workshop is ideal for those who are:\n• curious about their relationship to death\n• navigating grief or major life transitions\n• seeking clarity\, release\, or renewal\n• drawn to ceremony\, ritual\, or reflective work\n• ready for deeper self-understanding \nNo prior experience is needed. This is gentle\, inclusive and deeply transformative.

SUMMARY:Meditations on Death and Dying
DESCRIPTION:Meditations on Death and Dying is a monthly series of explorations and discussions devoted to honest\, thoughtful engagement with death\, dying\, and grief as essential parts of the human experience. Meeting on the last Saturday of each month\, this series offers a welcoming\, reflective space to approach mortality not as something morbid or distant\, but as something we live alongside every day. \nEach gathering features a guest with a unique relationship to death through lived experience\, professional work\, spiritual inquiry\, or philosophical reflection. Together\, we explore the physical\, emotional\, spiritual\, metaphysical\, and philosophical dimensions of death\, as well as the quieter ways loss shapes our lives\, relationships\, and communities. \nRather than offering doctrine or conclusions\, Meditations on Death and Dying invites shared inquiry. \nInaugural Gathering \nOur inaugural guest is a funeral director\, Marine\, and war veteran\, offering a deeply grounded perspective shaped by both service and loss. \nThrough his work as a funeral director\, he is regularly confronted with the fundamental reality of human existence: that we move from spirited\, living beings into organic matter that eventually returns to the earth. \nAlongside this physical truth\, he also bears witness to the emotional realities of death\, particularly the experiences of those left behind and the ways our culture makes space\, or fails to make space\, for grief. \nThis first exploration moves between the natural\, practical\, philosophical\, and even supernatural\, honoring both the tangible realities of the body and the invisible forces of grief\, memory\, and meaning. \nWhile the conversation may be intimate\, honest\, and at times raw\, it is guided by compassion and care. The intention is not to sensationalize death\, but to create a more loving and accessible way of relating to death as a fact of life and to grief as an ever-present\, often unseen force many of us are carrying. \nThis gathering is free and open to all.\nSpace is limited\, and RSVP is requested to ensure adequate seating. \nWhether you are actively grieving\, quietly curious\, philosophically inclined\, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with life\, you are warmly welcome.

SUMMARY:Grief in Motion: Inviting Flow Through Breath
DESCRIPTION:A guided community circle where we turn toward our grief and use the power of breath to gently guide it into flow.\nHosted by the Denver Deathcare Collective. Where grief is tended and death is sacred. \nThese monthly grief circles at Sakala Community are a compassionate space to hold your sorrow in the embrace of community. \nIn this month’s circle\, Ashley Bradney of Healing & Dying is partnering with Erin Doty of ShatterStress to offer a somatic transformation of grief through breathwork. Together\, we’ll honor the grief that lives in our bodies\, invite in flow and release of emotional energy through breathwork\, and support integration through reiki & gentle touch. \nIn this way\, we transform our grief into mourning – guiding it to find its natural course through the body; restoring motion where stagnancy has resided; opening up the channels where love\, joy\, and reverence may return to us. \nWhat to Expect \nOur time together will include: \nGrounding to arrive fully in the body\nConnection & introduction to our practice\nGuided Holotropic Breathwork practice\nShared reflections and community support \nWho It’s For \nThis circle is for anyone moving through grief – from the loss of those we love\, through heartbreak\, identify shifts\, illness\, aging; collective & ancestral grief; to the places that have not known love. All are welcome here. \nWhat to bring \nWater\nA journal and pen\nAnything special you need to get cozy such as an eye mask or pillow (yoga mats\, blankets\, and bolsters are provided)\nOptional – an item that represents whom or what you are grieving to be placed on the community altar \nA Note on Accessibility. \nIf this price isn’t accessible for you\, please reach out to us directly at denverdeathcarecollective@gmail.com so we can accommodate. We don’t want cost to be a barrier to being supported through your grief. \nSakala is ADA accessible.

SUMMARY:Life After Loss- Addressing Grief Aftermath: Coping\, Meaning Making\, and Healing In the Weeks\, Months\, and Years After Loss
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Center for Applied Research Solutions to create and engage in rich learning that focuses on grief work that we often miss: the long-term experiences\, processes\, and impacts of grief for young people\, and how we as providers\, systems leaders\, and culture builders can skill ourselves up to attend to the aftermath with as much attention as the acute. \nThanks to the generous support of the New York Life Foundation (New York Life Insurance Company) and the National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG)\, we are offering this event to help you build the skills to navigate the long-term impacts of grief. \n🗓️ WHEN: Thursday\, January 22 & Friday\, January 23\, 2026\n💻 WHERE: Virtual (join from anywhere!)\n💸 COST: FREE \nWhat you’ll gain:\n– Strategies to address trauma\, memorialization\, and commemoration.\n– Skills to interrupt isolation and support long-term healing.\n– A deeper understanding of how grief can encompass both joy and deep sadness. \nDay 1: Main Summit — Jan 22\n⏰ 9:00am–2:00pm PT / 12:00–5:00pm ET \nDay 2: Providers’ Processing Space — Jan 23\n⏰ 9:00am–12:00pm PT / 12:00–3:00pm ET \nDay 1 – Thursday\, January 22nd – topics will focus on the aftermath: the weeks\, months\, and years after big events and how grief can be both experiences of joy and celebration and isolation and deep sadness. Day 1 of the summit includes talks from/with Teddy McGlynn-Wright\, workshops with Carla Fernandez\, Tina Rocha\, Samira Moosavi and our team\, two panels of educators\, behavioral health providers\, and leaders (Taj Jensen\, Amy Castellanos\, Shefa Obaid\, Desralynn Cole\, CPPM\, Meghan Graham\, LCSW\, Scott Lindstrom\, Rosaura Orengo-Aguayo\,PhD\, and more) sharing how they navigate grief aftermath leadership post wildfire\, hurricane\, state violence\, substance use\, and social media harm. That amazing day closes with Dr. Zelana Montminy\, whose words of reflection on focus and griefscape will move us all. \nImportantly\, Day 2 – Friday\, January 23rd – focuses on provider processing: often\, providers (whether clinical providers\, systems leaders\, or educators) hold their own grief metabolization on pause while they support children and youth in acute need\, featuring an opening talk by Candice Rose Valenzuela\, a discussion with Ebony Sinnamon-Johnson\, Jerica Coffey\, and Jesus Solorio\, LMFT\, a somatic workshop with Sue Kuyper\, and a closing art practice with Oriana Ides. \nThrough meaningful workshops\, panels\, keynotes\, and discussion forums that focus on grief aftermath\, we will support professionals who work with young people to feel efficacious\, empowered\, and energized with strategies and skills that support young people in navigating all that comes with aftermath coping and healing: addressing trauma and grief activation\, memorialization and commemoration\, interrupting isolation and disenfranchised grief\, structural strategies to ensure ongoing\, responsive care. \nRegister\, see the full agenda and faculty bios here! https://www.cars-rp.org/life-after-loss

SUMMARY:Childfree By Choice & Grieving
DESCRIPTION:It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%\, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice\, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation. Many of us make this choice for a lot of unfortunate\, depressing\, and/or systemic reasons\, and I created this space where we can be with our truths\, and hurts\, around it all. \nOur monthly peer-led Zoom group is intended to be a space for people who have chosen not to have children. It is not intended to be a child-loss support group or infertility support group\, although if you have prior experience with infertility and/or pregnancy loss and have since decided to not have children (meaning you are now childfree by choice) feel free to join and see if it’s a good fit.

SUMMARY:Grief; Honoring Our Pain and Reclaiming Lifeforce
DESCRIPTION:All of us have experienced loss of some kind\, whether it’s the death of a loved one\, the end of a significant relationship\, losing a job\, health challenges\, or a dream deferred. And yet\, as Bert Hellinger\, the founder of Family Constellations noted about grief; “If you give it time\, the hole becomes a space.”\nIn this interactive Family Constellations workshop\, we’ll explore: how can we honor and acknowledge our loss without it preventing us from moving forward in generative ways? How we might bear the grief of the present and the past\, without sacrificing our future? What gentle adjustments might we make to allow adequate time for the hole to become a space?

SUMMARY:Death Medicine: An Open Mic Community Exploration of Death & Grief
DESCRIPTION:A monthly open mic event with a theme of death and grief is happening in both Sonoma and Marin counties of California. Occurring in San Rafael and Sebastopol\, these events have been beautifully received. \nBring your songs\, poetry\, stories\, dance or any other expression your heart feels called to offer around the topics of death and grief. \nThe event will be an open mic format where people can sing\, dance\, recite poetry\, or speak extemporaneously about their experiences of death and grief and be witnessed and heard by a radically present and loving audience in a well-held container. \nThere are no rules other than a share cannot last longer than five minutes. You need not perform to attend. The witnessing is at least as important as the sharing. \nWe imagine it as a community grief ritual. Sometimes a couple hours of cathartic release and tender listening and holding can do more to heal than years on a therapist’s couch.

SUMMARY:Intro to the Gates of Grief
DESCRIPTION:Grab your lunch or favorite tea and join us for a session with Rebecca Churt\, Founder of The Grievery. \nThis 50-minute introductory session offers a guided walk through a framework that expands grief far beyond death — into the realms of identity\, longing\, lost opportunities\, and the quiet heartache we carry for a fractured world. \nWe’ll take a concise tour of Francis Weller’s Gates of Grief (from The Wild Edge of Sorrow) and explore how grief — when acknowledged rather than avoided — becomes a vital life skill: helping us stay connected to ourselves and what matters most. \nThis session is an invitation to explore grief with curiosity — not to fix anything or relive pain\, but to make room for what has long wanted to be named\, opening the door to greater clarity\, resilience\, and meaning.

DESCRIPTION:Join Camila Crews\, founder of Sorry For Your Loss (Cards)\, and Susan Koursaris\, founder of Wholly Heart Nutrition\, for a conversation on how grief shows up in the body and how movement and food can support healing. \nJanuary is Self Love Month\, making this a good time to talk about gentle ways to care for yourself without pressure or perfection. SUMMARY:Dead Parents Club
DESCRIPTION:Losing a parent changes you. It’s weird\, it’s heavy\, it’s lonely. And a lot of people don’t know how to talk about it. \nDead Parents Club is a grief circle for anyone navigating life after the loss of a parent (or parents). This is a space where you don’t have to sugarcoat it. No one’s going to rush you\, try to fix you\, or flinch when you talk about the hard stuff. \nWe’ll begin with a short grounding to connect with your body and breath\, and then we’ll open the circle. The rest of the 90 minutes are yours: to share\, to listen\, to cry\, to sit in silence. Whatever you need. There’s no pressure to speak\, and no need to perform your grief in any particular way. \nThis space is about showing up as you are. Whether your loss is new or decades old\, whether you’re feeling raw\, numb\, angry\, relieved\, or all of it at once\, you’re welcome here. Though if your grief is still very fresh and raw\, know that this isn’t a support group in the clinical sense. \n🖤 Bring:\n– A water bottle\, a snack\, a notebook\, a memento\, or just yourself
– Your grief\, however it shows up that day
– A willingness to be in the room \nWe don’t have answers. We’re not here to fix anything. Grief needs space to breathe without judgment or rush. That’s what we’re offering. \nVirtual for the colder/flu-ier months. \nSliding scale $10-30. No-one will be turned away for lack of funds.

SUMMARY:Untangling The Tinsel: A Gathering for Grievers
DESCRIPTION:The holidays can leave a lot behind-feelings we didn’t expect\, words we couldn’t find\, emotions that live more in our bodies than our heads.\nThis gathering is an invitation to gently look back at what the season stirred up and sit with whatever is tangled. We’re holding space for relief\, acceptance\, community\, and grace-no fixing\, no pressure. Let’s gently untangle\, one strand at a time.

SUMMARY:Community Death Care Zine Workshop & Exchange
DESCRIPTION:A two hour workshop on creating resources for death-positive artists & EOL doulas in the form of Risograph printed zines.\nIs there a community death care or grief resource you really wish existed\, but doesn’t yet? Do you have specialized knowledge\, experiences\, or ideas that would help others move through loss and grief? \nZines\, accessible pocket-sized DIY publications\, are a great way to share ideas\, stories\, and information; whether you’re a practicing death doula\, grief tender\, or just starting to learn about death\, grief\, and loss this workshop will benefit you. \nThere will be a brief intro to zines and the Risograph printing process\, we’ll use generative prompts to refine zine ideas and go over basic file set up. Each participant will create their own one or two-color\, one-page zine design (11×17 or 8.5×11)\, which will be printed by me in my home studio. You will receive 25-50 copies of your own zine\, as well as 1 copy of all of the other zines created in the class. One week after the initial workshop there will be an optional LIVE PRINTING over zoom if you’d like to see more of the process and get a preview of your prints before they are sent to you via USPS. \nIf you’re completely new to Riso and want to know what you’re signing up for\, here are some examples. In short\, Riso printing is very similar to screen printing\, but the machine looks like your average copy machine. It has a really fun\, vibrant aesthetic and it’s environmentally friendly\, as it uses soy based ink\, rice paper for the stencils and no heat in the printing process. \nClass fee covers instruction\, printing time\, supplies\, and shipping costs.

SUMMARY:Decomposition Isn't A Dirty Word - Let's Talk About Green Burial
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided conversation on how burial in the United States drifted from our ancestral roots – and how green burial and conservation cemeteries can reconnect us with what’s natural\, human\, and quite literally in our DNA. Science doesn’t lie… our bodies are designed to decompose and return to the earth\, but green burial is limited in the US. \nHosted by Penny Waugh of The Death Network\, with panel guests Ed Bixby of The Global Green Burial Alliance and Jamie Phillips of Spirit Sanctuary Conservation Cemetery. Together\, we’ll unpack how we got here and why restoring time-honored burial practices matters for both our bodies and the planet. \nThis is a space to bring your questions – we honor open\, honest dialogue. With transparency and knowledge\, our hope is to help everyone understand their full range of options so end-of-life choices can be made with clarity and intention.
