SUMMARY:'Stitch & Time' Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of ‘Stitch & Time\,’ followed by a panel discussion and Q&A on Thursday\, March 26 at 8pm ET | 7pm CT | 6pm MT | 5pm PT. \nThe docu-short ‘Stitch & Time’ portrays how Billy Ray Worth and Clay Turner\, two incarcerated men serving life sentences\, forge an extraordinary friendship through an unexpected act of compassion: starting a crochet group to make warm items for fellow inmates in hospice care. \nTogether\, they lead a community of men who defy stereotypes about life behind bars\, finding purpose and connection through caregiving and creativity. As the group collaborates on a special project—a crochet wall hanging for the hospice unit—their story becomes one of redemption\, transformation\, and the enduring power of human connection. \nAfter the screening\, there will be a panel discussion with the co-directors and producers of Stitch & Time and team members of the Humane Prison Hospice Project. \nFollowing\, there will be an opportunity for a Q&A with guests\, before attendees are invited to a special opportunity to submit prompts for grief journals for incarcerated people. \n-You must RSVP \n-This event will be held via Zoom \n-This event will NOT be recorded \n-Closed captions will be provided. Guests are welcome to attend on or off camera. If there is anything we can do to make this event more accessible\, don’t hesitate to email rian@talkdeath.com \nWe hope you can join us for this special event. \nDavid Munro\, Producer\, Co-Director\, Story Editor \nDavid Munro is a Bay Area-based writer and film director/producer. SUMMARY:Book Club: What The Dead Know by Barbara Butcher
DESCRIPTION:What The Dead Know by Barbara Butcher Wednesday April 1st 5:00 – 6:00 PM (PT) 8-9 PM (ET) \nAbout the book:\nA “remarkably candid and sensitive” (The Wall Street Journal) true crime memoir from Barbara Butcher\, a trailblazing New York City death investigator\, who reveals the untold stories behind more than 5\,500 death scenes\, including the nation’s most horrific tragedy: the 9/11 attacks. \nWhen Barbara Butcher was early in her recovery from alcoholism\, she found an unexpected lifeline in a job at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in NYC. As only the second woman ever hired for the role—and the first to last more than three months—she became a vital force in the world of forensic science and criminal investigations. \nOver the next two decades\, Butcher worked thousands of cases: gruesome homicides\, suspicious suicides\, heartbreaking scenes involving underage victims\, and complex mass casualty investigations. In her unforgettable account\, she invites readers into the gritty\, high-stakes world of crime-scene investigation\, from the autopsy room and morgue to tense moments at active crime scenes. Along the way\, she uncovered how confronting death every day gave her a new perspective on life—and ultimately saved her from becoming a statistic herself. \nIn vivid\, darkly humorous prose\, Butcher recounts how she narrowly avoided a boobytrapped suicide scene\, and how\, during 9/11\, she and her colleagues worked tirelessly to identify victims using scraps of clothing\, DNA\, and the memories of grieving loved ones. Her honesty\, resilience\, and sharp wit make this a standout in the genre of first responder memoirs and women in law enforcement.

SUMMARY:Death Over Drafts
DESCRIPTION:At The Death Network\, you know we’re passionate about lifting the taboo around talking about death. Over the past year\, we’ve loved connecting with so many of you at our Death Cafes and discussion groups across San Diego. This time\, we’re excited to switch things up with a more casual gathering – an evening to mix\, mingle\, and share a drink with folks who appreciate some good\, honest conversation about death and dying. Grab a drink\, and come hang out with us for an evening of community\, curiosity\, and conversation – served with a side of good beer. \nDeath Over Drafts is a laid-back night out where good drinks meet real talk. It’s a chance to connect with like-minded folks who aren’t afraid to go deep – chatting about life\, loss\, and everything in between. \nThis month\, we’re teaming up with our friends at Autonomy Health\, they’ll be on hand to chat about medical aid in dying (MAiD) and how this legal option is allowing folks to make end of life decisions with knowledge and agency. \nBring your curiosity and your questions\, grab a drink and join the conversation – the first round is on Autonomy Health 🍻 cheers!

SUMMARY:"It's Complicated" Support Group
DESCRIPTION:A monthly peer-led Zoom group for people who had a strained relationship with someone who’s died. It can be tough to be in a group with other folks who were close with their parent\, sibling\, grandparent\, partner\, co-parent\, friend\, etc. As much as I like for there to be a range of experiences represented in grief groups\, so that we can hear diverse perspectives\, sometimes it is nice to be with people who “get it.” When addiction\, mental health challenges\, conflict\, estrangement\, abuse\, etc. were a part of the picture\, it can affect the grief journey in unique ways. This is a space for us.

SUMMARY:The Last Chapter Book Club reads The Collected regrets of Clover
DESCRIPTION:A surprisingly uplifting book club for the morbidly curious\, led by Megan Morano of Until Death Doulas \nLast Chapter Book Club reads\nTHE COLLECTED REGRETS OF CLOVER\nby Mikki Brammer \nThursday Apr 9th\, 2026\n6:00 PM-7:00 PM \nMeeting will be at The Bookshop\n1043 W Eastland Ave\, Nashville\, TN 37206-3533 \nPurchase the book from The Bookshop using the link to sign up. \nBook Description:\n“From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit\, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling\, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City\, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process. \nClover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own\, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story––and perhaps\, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship\, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants\, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it. \nProbing\, clever\, and hopeful\, The Collected Regrets of Clover is perfect for readers of The Midnight Library and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine as it turns the normally taboo subject of death into a reason to celebrate life.”

SUMMARY:Death Cafe at Felixology Bookshop
DESCRIPTION:“It is a curious thing\, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited\, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet\, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark\, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down\, through the air\, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.”\nLemony Snicket \nGather together for coffee\, cake\, and casual conversations on death to try to alleviate the feelings of anxiety and “dark surprise” around death and dying.

SUMMARY:Advance Care Planning Day with a Death Doula
DESCRIPTION:It’s Advance Care Planning Day\, and today is a reminder that we need to make a plan for when we can’t speak up for ourselves. \nApril 16th\, 2026\n7PM – 8PM EST\n$10\nONLINE Virtual Admin Hangout with a Death Doula\nRegister your spot: https://calendly.com/ladydeathdoula/advance-care-planning-day \nYou know you should do it… but every time you sit down to do it\, you end up doom scrolling\, or even washing the dishes because ANYTHING is better than planning for a crisis. What is it with our brains shutting down and freaking out about planning for worst case scenarios? Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant – and talking about death and dying won’t make you dead. This is making sure our future self isn’t anxious: so that Future You is confident that things will work out the way I WANT them to. \nHaving a plan\, having meaningful conversations outside of crisis is hard and heavy work\, but Future You is so thankful already\, and so is your family who will know what you want when you can’t speak up for yourself. \nLet’s do this.\nLet’s have a virtual admin hang-out and get this sh*t done! Print off the PDF from Advance Care Planning Canada: https://advancecareplanningontario.ca/acp/acp-workbook/download-a-workbook and let’s fill it out\, together. \nI’m here to hold space and answer questions\, and if I don’t know the answer that’s ok I will do my best to find out – I’m not shy when it comes to talking about death and dying. \nGrab a tea\, have a snack\, and let’s make our future selves happy we did this today. \nFrom Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association \nAdvance Care Planning Day \n \nWho would you trust to make your healthcare decisions?\nPlanning for your future healthcare needs is important. What would happen if you couldn’t decide for yourself? Who would you trust to make those healthcare decisions for you? \nThink about who you would trust with making those important decisions for you. \nThink about what matters most in your life and how that might help guide someone in making the kinds of healthcare decisions you would want. \nThe best time to think about this is now when you can decide for yourself. We have useful guides to help you along the way. \nApril 16th is Advance Care Planning Day. So\, ask yourself: If not you\, who?

SUMMARY:Childfree By Choice & Grieving
DESCRIPTION:It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%\, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice\, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation. Many of us make this choice for a lot of unfortunate\, depressing\, and/or systemic reasons\, and I created this space where we can be with our truths\, and hurts\, around it all. \nOur monthly peer-led Zoom group is intended to be a space for people who have chosen not to have children. It is not intended to be a child-loss support group or infertility support group\, although if you have prior experience with infertility and/or pregnancy loss and have since decided to not have children (meaning you are now childfree by choice) feel free to join and see if it’s a good fit.
