SUMMARY:Teeth Become Weapons: Trans Grief and Rage
DESCRIPTION:Queer Death Salon is a community space for all 2SLGBTQIA+ people to come together to discuss death\, dying and grief. It is a facilitated drop-in discussion space\, with the purpose of building connection\, skill\, and resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ people navigating end of life in our personal lives and in our communities. \nOur bodies\, lives\, and very beings are increasingly politicized.\nOur stories and histories are flattened\, made palatable for the sake of survival.\nOur unique grief becomes increasingly buried and unheard\, unshared.\nWhat makes it unique?\nWhat do we grieve?\nHow does that grief affect us?\nWhat prevents us from engaging with that grief?\nHow does our grief connect us and bring us together?\nFacilitator Imogen Reid is the last of the feral trans women\, a proud dirtbag\, degenerate\, and fuck up. She is a harm reduction advocate and educator\, a former founding member of Communities Organizing for Harm Reduction\, one of the first organized groups in Ottawa doing harm reduction before there were any safe sites. Imogen is a recovering drug addict\, survivor\, fighter\, activist\, shoplifter\, parent\, story teller\, and the holder of the memories of her dead. \nQueer Death Salon takes place over Zoom\, in English\, with Automatic Closed Captioning

SUMMARY:Childfree By Choice & Grieving
DESCRIPTION:It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%\, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice\, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation. Many of us make this choice for a lot of unfortunate\, depressing\, and/or systemic reasons\, and I created this space where we can be with our truths\, and hurts\, around it all. \nOur monthly peer-led Zoom group is intended to be a space for people who have chosen not to have children. It is not intended to be a child-loss support group or infertility support group\, although if you have prior experience with infertility and/or pregnancy loss and have since decided to not have children (meaning you are now childfree by choice) feel free to join and see if it’s a good fit.

SUMMARY:Dyeing before Dying: A Return To Indigenous Wisdom on Death
DESCRIPTION:In summer 2025\, I was in Benin and went to my paternal grandmother’s grave\, visiting it for the first time since she died some years ago. Her grave is not just a stone in the ground of a cemetery\, but a room within her family’s house\, a place where life continues to unfold with death resting beneath us. With my brother\, my aunt and my grand mothers’s siblings\, we settled in the room\, removed the dust\, sat\, chatted and performed rituals and prayers for her soul to continue resting in peace and wisdom. There\, in the presence of her spirit\, we shared foods and drinks that are specially made for death rituals\, we laughed and told stories about her and us\, not only beautiful ones\, but also painful ones. \nThe room and the entire family compound filled with memory\, with sound and silence\, with the feeling that she was still among us. We stayed the whole afternoon until dusk. The light dimmed; the air thickened with memory\, and I felt how thin the line between life and death truly is. How in our ways\, death is never separate from life but part of its ongoing rhythm. It was there\, sitting in that room together with everyone\, repeating the same ritualistic gestures\, being in silence and patient\, that I remembered that dying \, like dyeing is a slow process\, a transformation\, a return. \nIt is from this experience that the workshop Dyeing before Dying: A Return to Indigenous Wisdom on Death was born. An invitation to sit with death\, not as an abstract or frightening idea\, but as a teacher\, a companion; and a mirror. \nIn this weekend workshop\, we will explore what it means to prepare for death while we are still living: To reflect\, to make peace\, to organise\, to imagine our departure\, and to reconnect with the ancestral and Indigenous ways that hold death as a continuation of life. We will then begin thinking and writing our own Death Journal\, a gentle space to gather our reflections\, memories\, unfinished conversations\, and visions for what we wish to leave behind. \nTo dye is to steep. To soak. To sit with something long enough for it to leave a mark. It is a slow\, deliberate act. It transforms what is plain into something layered\, stained\, changed. \nI borrow this image of dyeing to speak about the process of preparing for dying. \nIn many Indigenous worldviews death is not the end. \nIt is a return. A passage. A continuation. \nThis workshop is an invitation to reconnect with those ways of knowing and to reflect on: \n• What kind of death do I long for? \n• What needs to be closed\, spoken\, or reconciled? \n• What rituals do I want to accompany my departure? \n• How do I imagine my afterlife\, not only in spirit\, but in memory\, in legacy\, in land? \nWe will sit with these questions as a slow dye bath allowing them to seep in\, mark us\, and guide the way we live and prepare to leave.

SUMMARY:"It's Complicated" Support Group
DESCRIPTION:A monthly peer-led Zoom group for people who had a strained relationship with someone who’s died. It can be tough to be in a group with other folks who were close with their parent\, sibling\, grandparent\, partner\, co-parent\, friend\, etc. As much as I like for there to be a range of experiences represented in grief groups\, so that we can hear diverse perspectives\, sometimes it is nice to be with people who “get it.” When addiction\, mental health challenges\, conflict\, estrangement\, abuse\, etc. were a part of the picture\, it can affect the grief journey in unique ways. This is a space for us.

SUMMARY:The Last Chapter Book Club
DESCRIPTION:A surprisingly uplifting book club for the morbidly curious. Led by Megan Morano of Until Death Doulas. \nPurchase the book from The Bookshop Nashville to join!\nThe Bookshop – 1043 West Eastland Ave\, Nashville TN 37206 \nFebruary’s Read – From Here to Eternity by Caitlin Doughty:\nFascinated by our pervasive fear of dead bodies\, mortician Caitlin Doughty embarks on a global expedition to discover how other cultures care for the dead. From Zoroastrian sky burials to wish-granting Bolivian skulls\, she investigates the world’s funerary customs and expands our sense of what it means to treat the dead with dignity. Her account questions the rituals of the American funeral industry—especially chemical embalming—and suggests that the most effective traditions are those that allow mourners to personally attend to the body of the deceased. Exquisitely illustrated by artist Landis Blair\, From Here to Eternity is an adventure into the morbid unknown\, a fascinating tour through the unique ways people everywhere confront mortality.

DESCRIPTION:Meditations on Death and Dying is a monthly series of explorations and discussions devoted to honest\, thoughtful engagement with death\, dying\, and grief as essential parts of the human experience. Meeting on the last Saturday of each month\, this series offers a welcoming\, reflective space to approach mortality not as something morbid or distant\, but as something we live alongside every day. \nEach gathering features a guest with a unique relationship to death through lived experience\, professional work\, spiritual inquiry\, or philosophical reflection. Together\, we explore the physical\, emotional\, spiritual\, metaphysical\, and philosophical dimensions of death\, as well as the quieter ways loss shapes our lives\, relationships\, and communities. \nRather than offering doctrine or conclusions\, Meditations on Death and Dying invites shared inquiry. \nInaugural Gathering \nOur inaugural guest is a funeral director\, Marine\, and war veteran\, offering a deeply grounded perspective shaped by both service and loss. \nThrough his work as a funeral director\, he is regularly confronted with the fundamental reality of human existence: that we move from spirited\, living beings into organic matter that eventually returns to the earth. \nAlongside this physical truth\, he also bears witness to the emotional realities of death\, particularly the experiences of those left behind and the ways our culture makes space\, or fails to make space\, for grief. \nThis first exploration moves between the natural\, practical\, philosophical\, and even supernatural\, honoring both the tangible realities of the body and the invisible forces of grief\, memory\, and meaning. \nWhile the conversation may be intimate\, honest\, and at times raw\, it is guided by compassion and care. The intention is not to sensationalize death\, but to create a more loving and accessible way of relating to death as a fact of life and to grief as an ever-present\, often unseen force many of us are carrying. \nThis gathering is free and open to all.\nSpace is limited\, and RSVP is requested to ensure adequate seating. \nWhether you are actively grieving\, quietly curious\, philosophically inclined\, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with life\, you are warmly welcome.
