SUMMARY:Childfree By Choice & Grieving
DESCRIPTION:It’s not a given that everyone who is childfree by choice is 100%\, unabashedly content with the decision. While we may be set in our choice\, there can still be grief there. I know there is for me. It’s a both-and/two truths situation. Many of us make this choice for a lot of unfortunate\, depressing\, and/or systemic reasons\, and I created this space where we can be with our truths\, and hurts\, around it all. \nOur monthly peer-led Zoom group is intended to be a space for people who have chosen not to have children. It is not intended to be a child-loss support group or infertility support group\, although if you have prior experience with infertility and/or pregnancy loss and have since decided to not have children (meaning you are now childfree by choice) feel free to join and see if it’s a good fit.

SUMMARY:"It's Complicated" Support Group
DESCRIPTION:A monthly peer-led Zoom group for people who had a strained relationship with someone who’s died. It can be tough to be in a group with other folks who were close with their parent\, sibling\, grandparent\, partner\, co-parent\, friend\, etc. As much as I like for there to be a range of experiences represented in grief groups\, so that we can hear diverse perspectives\, sometimes it is nice to be with people who “get it.” When addiction\, mental health challenges\, conflict\, estrangement\, abuse\, etc. were a part of the picture\, it can affect the grief journey in unique ways. This is a space for us.

SUMMARY:Sand Bay Death Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Excited to announce the Sand Bay Death Cafe Summer Series\, the first Wednesday of the month in June\, July and August\, 6-8pm at the Cosy Cafe on Beach Road. Join us for drinks\, cake and an exploration of what it means to live in the light of our mortality. \nYes\, the topic of death can feel heavy\, even a little taboo. But opening up and talking about the things that scare us can often bring us peace and direction in ways we may never have expected. Many find that talking about death eases the fear and mystery of it. \nDeath Cafes happen in towns and cities around the world\, creating space for genuine\, unhurried discussion about our mortality…a topic that touches all our lives\, yet rarely finds its way into everyday conversation. \nThis isn’t a grief support group or educational seminar. Instead\, we offer a comfortable space where people from all walks of life can share their thoughts about death and dying\, ask questions\, gain new perspectives and reflect on what makes life meaningful. \nHow it works: Conversation prompts will be available\, but there will be no formal direction. Discussions take place with strangers in small groups over a drink and cake…it’s very relaxed and you can add to the conversation or just listen. \nBe brave and join us! Come to one\, or all three sessions. The venue is accessible\, all welcome.

SUMMARY:Tour Almudena Cemetery (East Cemetery of Madrid)
DESCRIPTION:From @entretumbas (IG)\, in collaboration with Experimenta Madrid\, we organize these guided tours of the Almudena Cemetery\, whose real name is the Necropolis of the East of Madrid. It is the largest cemetery in Western Europe (120 hectares\, 120 times the size of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium!) During our tours\, we learn about the history of the cemetery\, so closely linked to that of our city. We visit the tombs of historical figures and other anonymous but highly interesting graves. We also learn funerary symbolism to understand the language of the cemetery. All with a gender perspective\, positive death\, and historical memory.

SUMMARY:Monthly Cup Of Tea For The Soul
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this monthly event\, on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30pm. After a suicide loss \, many survivors feel isolated. Finding sameness and belonging are key ingredients needed to help their journey through grief. Feeling supported and with the possibility to create new connections is essential. In this 1.5 hour session\, you will find a safe place to meet other suicide loss survivors to share challenges\, resources\, feelings and ideas. \nRegister at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/1036231254577?aff=oddtdtcreator \nThis session will cover: \nFacilitated grief circle for a particular loss type relationship: parents\, partner\, child\, sibling\, friends\, coworkers. Loss types may be grouped together depending on monthly turn out. During this grief circle\, skilled volunteers will facilitate and offer discussion prompts\, and attendees are welcome to participate in the conversation or simply find comfort in being present in the space. \nDuring this session\, we will also lead a mindfulness grounding exercise\, honor those who have passed\, and provide support resources for all attendees. \nWho is it for? \nAnyone who has lost a significant other to suicide and wants to join others in building a supportive community. \nZoom link will be provided once registered. \nAttendees will be advised to attend at their discretion\, acknowledging that grieving a suicide can be challenging. Attendees will be invited to be mindful of the content of their sharing to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing. \nImportant Information \nOur events prioritize creating a safe and supportive space in various ways\, including guidelines to avoid discussing graphic details of loss to prevent re traumatizing others. We recognize that those in the very early stages of grief may still feel overwhelmed by discussions surrounding suicide loss. We encourage you to check in with yourself before attending to ensure you feel ready for this kind of group experience \nTo help create a safe and supportive environment\, we ask that participants keep their webcams on during the event. \nFacilitators \nThis session is facilitated by Jesse Cervenka and co-facilitated by experienced volunteers. Jesse is the new Bereavement Coordinator at the Crisis Centre of BC as well as an intern Counsellor at the Vancouver Hospice Society\, where he helps run various groups and provides one-on-one grief counseling. Jesse hopes to make this event a safe place for people to share their stories and build a sense of community. \nThe Crisis Centre of BC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support services. To help support these sessions\, please consider making a donation at crisiscentre.bc.ca/donate \nQuestions? \nPlease email bereavement@crisiscentre.bc.ca

Mat\, props\, & snacks provided. Bring a mug for tea\, and your own mat if you’d like. \nAll kinds of grief are welcome. The death of a loved one always brings grief\, but we also feel grief over any big change\, including divorce or break ups\, job loss\, the death of a pet\, a move to a new city\, and other big changes. We can also feel grief for the collective\, like because of war and climate change\, and because of ancestral trauma. SUMMARY:Death Café - Ybor
DESCRIPTION:A Death Café is a warm\, welcoming gathering where people—often strangers—come together to talk openly about death\, dying\, and the meaning of life. \nThere’s no agenda\, no selling\, and no judgment—just real conversations over tea\, coffee\, and usually a bit of cake. It’s not a grief support group or a therapy session\, but a space for curiosity\, reflection\, and connection. \nBy talking about death\, we often discover how we want to live more fully. At its heart\, a Death Café is about breaking the silence and creating a community where life’s hardest topic becomes a source of shared understanding and purpose.

SUMMARY:Bound By Loss Reading Circle
DESCRIPTION:Bound By Loss is a thoughtfully facilitated book circle for those navigating loss who feel ready to engage with their grief through reading\, reflection\, and discussion. This circle will provide a supportive\, non-pathologizing space to explore grief-related literature — offering insight\, validation\, and connection outside the structure of formal therapy and with a return to community in mind. \nEach month\, we’ll read and discuss a selected book\, ranging from memoirs and personal narratives to research-based explorations of grief\, loss\, and meaning-making. Conversations will be facilitated with care\, fostering curiosity\, self-reflection\, and shared experiences. While this is not a therapy group\, some may find it therapeutic — offering companionship in the grief journey through literature\, connection\, and meaningful discussion. \nThis space is open to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of grief\, whether processing personal loss\, supporting others\, or exploring the ways grief shapes our lives. Participation is flexible; you are welcome to engage as much or as little as feels right\, whether by sharing reflections or simply listening. \nCome as you are\, bring your questions\, thoughts\, and an open heart. Grief is lighter when we don’t carry it alone. \n📖 First Meeting: May 8th\, 6–8 PM\n📚 First Book: Briefly Perfectly Human by Alua Arthur \nThis group will meet via Google Meet. No download is required to join. Auto-generated captions will be available\, and I am open to discussing alternative accessibility options as needed. While cameras on is preferred (because we wanna see your beautiful face)\, no one will be required to do so. \nPlease note that listening to audio books is reading in this group. Braille is reading in this group.

We’ll have limited initial supplies to get you started\, so feel free to bring some flowers or seeds\, get your assignment\, and then go to town! Please email cradlegraves@friendsofmountmoriahcemetery.org with questions and to verify interest. Returning gardeners will have priority for their cradles from last year. \nCradle grave gardening is a great way to help out in a small but rewarding way. Come at your convenience\, get outside\, and enjoy your mini garden.
