SUMMARY:The Good Death Book Club Experience FREE 12-Month Death and Dying Course
DESCRIPTION:According to a recent AARP study\, there are over 52 million caregivers in the United States right now—and 70% of them say they are overwhelmed. Every single day\, I receive messages from current and former caregivers who say:\n“I wish I had this knowledge when I was caring for my loved one.”\nOr:\n“The Doulagivers training is helping me more than I can say.” \nThe truth is:\nWe will all have a caregiving story. \nLet’s make sure yours is one filled with support\, empowerment\, and peace. \nThat’s why I created The GOOD DEATH BOOK CLUB Experience: Death and Dying Course—a free\, live\, 12-month educational journey through my bestselling book The Good Death: A Guide for Supporting Your Loved One Through the End of Life. \nWhat It Is:\nEach month\, we explore one chapter of The Good Death together. \nYou’ll receive:\n-A live End of life teaching course with me\, Suzanne B. O’Brien\, RN\n-A guided workbook and downloadable companion guide\n-A group discussion and experiential exercise\n-A full 12 month Death and Dying Course for free \nWho It’s For: \n-Current and future caregivers ( all of us )\n-Death Doulas\, aspiring Death Doulas\, medical professionals\n-Individuals seeking grief healing and emotional support\n-Anyone who wants spiritual inspiration and empowerment around death\, aging\, and life itself \nWhy It Matters:\nDeath is 100% guaranteed—and yet\, our modern culture has stripped away the education and sacredness that used to surround it. \nThis lack of awareness is contributing to unnecessary fear\, trauma\, and prolonged suffering and grief. \nBut death is not the enemy. \nIt is our greatest teacher about how to truly live. \nWhen we return death to its place as a natural\, sacred transition\, we begin to reclaim peace\, presence\, and purpose in our lives and communities TODAY! \nWhat You Can Do:\nJoin The Experience and Share with Your Friends!

SUMMARY:Virtual Silent Book Club of Death
DESCRIPTION:Death Project Manager\, Silent Book Club of Death\, Silent Book Club of Death NYC\, Silent Book Club of Death MTL\, and TalkDeath’s Book Club are thrilled to invite you to a Virtual Silent Book Club of Death meeting! \nThis virtual gathering will be on Friday\, October 10th at 5pm ET/ 4pm CT/ 3pm MT/ 2pm PT. \nSilent Book Club of Death meetings are structured like any Silent Book Club gathering: you meet up with friendly\, like-minded readers\, and then politely ignore them while reading a book of your own choosing. Members are encouraged to bring books related to the theme of death\, dying\, grief\, aging\, or mortality\, but anyone who wants to just read quietly in a death-conscious space is welcome to join. \nFolks are welcome to be on or off camera. We’ll play some relaxing music. After the designated reading time\, folks are welcome to stay on and share a bit about what they’re reading and connect. \nA loose agenda for the evening is as follows: \n5PM – 5:15PM: readers join; introductions of hosts and guests \n5:15 – 5:45PM: silent reading time while music plays \n5:45 – 6:15PM: share out about what you’ve read and lightly facilitated group discussion \n6:15 – 6:30PM: goodbyes and wrap up \nThis virtual event will be held via Zoom. Closed captions will be enabled. If we can do anything to provide accessibility\, please do not hesitate to reach out. \nGuests who RSVP will be emailed the Zoom link. \nWe hope you can join us! \nLearn more and RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-silent-book-club-of-death-tickets-1671597245359?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Friends Missing Friends: A Gathering for Friend-Loss Grievers
DESCRIPTION:Are you grieving the death of a friend? Do you want to meet and gather with people who GET it? Friend-loss grief is isolating because it’s disenfranchised\, and there are very few resources available. We shouldn’t have to do this alone. Let’s honor our friends\, talk about our grief\, and find comfort in community.

SUMMARY:Sexual Bereavement - Queer Death Salon
DESCRIPTION:Let’s gather and engage with our questions and feelings about: \nsex after the death of a loved one.\nthe disenfranchised grief of polyamorous and kinky relational loss.\nhow pleasure and erotic energy can support our mourning.\nchanges in desire as death approaches for ourselves or a loved one.\ncultural expectations of how a widow should act and our internalized stories about that.\nanything sex/pleasure and bereavement related. No question is too taboo. \nJess will invite folks to participate in embodiment exercises\, freewrite and consider the ways they want to be in relationship to their sexual expression within their (anticipatory) grief. \nJess DeVries is a queer somatic sex coach and grief worker. She primarily serves the queer/trans community supporting folks in reclaiming body autonomy and to inspire curiosity about pleasure and sexual expression\, guiding folks to define and pursue pleasure on their own terms. She is a grief advocate who regularly facilitates spaces for people to grieve\, inviting the wisdom of the body to guide the grief process. \nWithin the realms of grief\, she has trained with Being Here\, Human – as well as – Shauna Janz of Sacred Grief. Her grief work is held by connections to her ancestors\, mugwort\, hawthorne\, rose\, connection to her pussy\, and many many tears. Within the realms of pleasure and embodiment\, she has trained in Somatic Sex Education and Sexological Bodywork at the ISSSE – as well as – the Somatica Method with the Somatica Institute. Her pleasure work is held by delighting in sights\, smells\, and tastes\, a dirty imagination\, and sharing touch with human and non-human kin. \nJess provides 1:1 sessions online or by phone. She also facilitates workshops\, grief circles\, and rituals online for queer folks\, ex-Christians\, and Covid realist communities.

SUMMARY:In the Wake of Life...An immersive\, theatrical experience
DESCRIPTION:A Bold Theatrical Experiment in a Sacred Space \nStaged in the chapel’s historic rooms\, In the Wake of Life invites audiences to move through a series of short plays\, live vignettes\, and interactive art installations. Each room becomes its own act — a poetic encounter with memory\, mourning\, and meaning. Licensed grief professionals are on hand to ensure that this deeply emotional experience remains grounded in compassion and care. \n“This is not grief as tragedy — it’s grief as transformation\,” says playwright and producer Elizabeth Coplan\, founder of Grief Dialogues. “By bringing theatre into a funeral home\, we’re reclaiming the language of loss and giving audiences a new way to see themselves in it — through story\, humor\, and shared humanity.”

SUMMARY:Grief and the Holidays: Practical Tips & Create a Take Home Candle Ritual
DESCRIPTION:The holiday season can be especially tender when we are missing someone we love. This 2-hour interactive gathering offers gentle guidance\, education\, and ritual practices to help navigate grief during this time of year. \nHosted by Wendy Kessler\, Grief Guide\, this is a time for us to come together and acknowledge that the holidays can present additional challenges for those who are grieving. Wendy will share practical ways to navigate the season and show us how knowledge\, ritual and creativity can aid in the integration of grief. \nTogether\, we will: \nLearn about the nature of grief and tools for navigating hard days \nExplore the history and healing power of ritual \nCreate a personalized candle ritual scape to take home \nShare in community conversation and connection \nThe heart of our time will be the Five-Candle Ritual\, a simple yet profound way to honor loved ones we miss. Each candle represents sorrow\, courage\, memories\, love\, and hope. Whether practiced in community or privately\, this ritual can become a grounding tradition throughout the holidays and beyond. \nAll supplies are included\, and you’ll leave with a ritual candlescape\, handouts\, and practices you can return to at home. Feel free to bring-your-own special items that you’d like to include in your candlescape – a favorite container like a tray or basket\, trinkets and mementos to personalize your creation. \n💗 Come as you are\, with your grief\, your love\, and your memories. Together\, we’ll create space for light and hope. \nWe hope to see you soon!

SUMMARY:A Gathering for Friend-loss Grievers
DESCRIPTION:In this online gathering\, we will share stories and have a facilitated discussion about friend-loss grief. \nThe session will be hosted and facilitated by Hannah Rumsey\, the Founder and Director of Friends Missing Friends — a community dedicated to providing support and guidance for people grieving friends. \nFriend-loss grief is widely ignored and dismissed by our society. Harold Ivan Smith\, the author of Grieving the Death of a Friend\, said it best: “The distraught close friend of someone who dies has virtually no legitimate\, public grief and mourning channels.” \nBecause of that\, friend-loss grievers have very few avenues to openly talk about their grief. In this discussion\, we are free to talk about it: the depth of our sadness\, the fears\, the anxieties\, the doubts\, the jealousies. Everything we are normally too scared to say. \nLet’s honor our friends\, make connections\, and have meaningful conversation.

SUMMARY:Death Medicine: An Open Mic Community Exploration of Death & Grief
DESCRIPTION:A monthly open mic event with a theme of death and grief is happening in both Sonoma and Marin counties of California. Occurring in San Rafael and Sebastopol\, these events have been beautifully received. \nBring your songs\, poetry\, stories\, dance or any other expression your heart feels called to offer around the topics of death and grief. \nThe event will be an open mic format where people can sing\, dance\, recite poetry\, or speak extemporaneously about their experiences of death and grief and be witnessed and heard by a radically present and loving audience in a well-held container. \nThere are no rules other than a share cannot last longer than five minutes. You need not perform to attend. The witnessing is at least as important as the sharing. \nWe imagine it as a community grief ritual. Sometimes a couple hours of cathartic release and tender listening and holding can do more to heal than years on a therapist’s couch.

SUMMARY:Meditations on Death and Dying
DESCRIPTION:Meditations on Death and Dying is a monthly series of explorations and discussions devoted to honest\, thoughtful engagement with death\, dying\, and grief as essential parts of the human experience. Meeting on the last Saturday of each month\, this series offers a welcoming\, reflective space to approach mortality not as something morbid or distant\, but as something we live alongside every day. \nEach gathering features a guest with a unique relationship to death through lived experience\, professional work\, spiritual inquiry\, or philosophical reflection. Together\, we explore the physical\, emotional\, spiritual\, metaphysical\, and philosophical dimensions of death\, as well as the quieter ways loss shapes our lives\, relationships\, and communities. \nRather than offering doctrine or conclusions\, Meditations on Death and Dying invites shared inquiry. \nInaugural Gathering \nOur inaugural guest is a funeral director\, Marine\, and war veteran\, offering a deeply grounded perspective shaped by both service and loss. \nThrough his work as a funeral director\, he is regularly confronted with the fundamental reality of human existence: that we move from spirited\, living beings into organic matter that eventually returns to the earth. \nAlongside this physical truth\, he also bears witness to the emotional realities of death\, particularly the experiences of those left behind and the ways our culture makes space\, or fails to make space\, for grief. \nThis first exploration moves between the natural\, practical\, philosophical\, and even supernatural\, honoring both the tangible realities of the body and the invisible forces of grief\, memory\, and meaning. \nWhile the conversation may be intimate\, honest\, and at times raw\, it is guided by compassion and care. The intention is not to sensationalize death\, but to create a more loving and accessible way of relating to death as a fact of life and to grief as an ever-present\, often unseen force many of us are carrying. \nThis gathering is free and open to all.\nSpace is limited\, and RSVP is requested to ensure adequate seating. \nWhether you are actively grieving\, quietly curious\, philosophically inclined\, or simply seeking a deeper relationship with life\, you are warmly welcome.
