Mortem: Death School for Artists

Mortem is an intensive online research residency for artists to pursue our curiosity of death, mortality and mourning practices over ten days in November.

While on residency with the Biophilium artists interact with a range of death experts. Mortem offers a forum to learn about human and non-human death practices directly from international end of life and death care professionals, historians, funeral industry workers, biologists, green burial advocates and artists on a range of death related topics and several short one on one meetings with artists who make work about death around the world.

This research fellowship supports artists while they explore and develop their identities as death-curious artists, address extinction and environmental grief, and develop new creative ways to acknowledge mortality and to renegotiate our relationships with the dead.
